Southwest Airlines flight WN2937 is operated by a Boeing 737MAX (registration number N8710M) and is planned to fly from Washington Airport to Orlando, Florida. JetBlue flight 1554 was operated by an E190 aircraft (registration number N323JB) and was scheduled to fly from Washington to Boston. At 7:41 a.m. on April 18, air traffic control personnel directed Southwest Airlines Flight 2937 to cross Runway 4 of Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington. At the same time, JetBlue flight 1554 to Logan Airport was cleared to take off from the same runway.
The air traffic control personnel who discovered the situation urgently notified the pilots of the two passenger planes and asked them to stop immediately.
